Bad faith in philanthropy and trademark registrations: what goes around, comes around

In March 2013, the Court of Turin issued a landmark ruling which invalidated the registration of certain trademarks connected to a well known charitable organization, stating that the registration of the trademarks at issue by the president of the charitable association was illegal because it occurred “in bad faith and with the aim to obtain unjust enrichment”. Further, because the trademarks were registered in bad faith, the Court voided a subsequent contract for sale of the same.
